Instagram's link-safety system flags domains based on user reports, Meta's URL classifier, and shared infrastructure with previously flagged sites. A flagged domain may save in your bio but render with a warning, fail to open, or be silently demoted in DMs. The unblock workflow has four stages, run in order.
Fix steps
Confirm the block. Open the domain in a fresh Instagram DM to yourself. If the link preview is blank, an "unsafe" warning appears on tap, or the link is rejected on save, the domain is flagged. If the link previews and opens normally, the issue is elsewhere.
Submit a review request. Open Instagram → Settings → Help → Report a problem → "Something isn't working" → describe the domain and the symptom. Include the full URL, a screenshot of the warning, and a one-sentence statement that the domain is yours and is not malicious. Meta reviews most submissions within 5–14 days.
Check your domain's shared history. New domains on shared hosting (some shortener services, some shared subdomains, some bulk-registered TLDs) inherit blocks from prior tenants. Move to a domain you control directly. A custom domain on linkboo isolates you from this risk.
If the block persists after review, migrate to a fresh domain. A domain that has been flagged and unflagged is more likely to be re-flagged. For affiliate, adult-adjacent, regulated, or high-volume use cases, a new domain on a clean TLD (.com, .co, .link) is faster than waiting for review.
While waiting, route Instagram traffic through a linkboo short link on a clean domain. Your underlying destination stays the same; Instagram sees only the linkboo domain in the bio field.
Still not working?
If your link is unblocked but shows the "this link may be unsafe" interstitial only some of the time, you are likely hitting the shadow-block tier. That is a separate diagnostic.
