Instagram bio link "this link may be unsafe" warning — fix

When a viewer taps your Instagram bio link and sees a warning screen reading "This link may be unsafe" before the destination loads, Instagram has classified the domain (or a redirect within it) as potentially harmful. The warning is a soft block — viewers can proceed, but most do not. Removing it requires identifying which classifier triggered.

Fix steps

  1. Reproduce the warning yourself. Tap your own bio link from a different Instagram account or an incognito session. Note the exact wording. "This link may be unsafe" and "This page may not be safe" are different classifiers with different appeal paths.

  2. Check whether the warning appears for the linkboo domain or the underlying destination. If you redirect through linkboo to a final destination, Instagram may be flagging the final destination. Open the destination URL directly in a fresh Instagram DM. If it triggers the same warning, the underlying site is the source.

  3. Submit a review. Settings → Help → Report a problem. Include the full URL, the warning text, and a one-sentence description that the destination is legitimate. Meta typically reviews these in 5–14 days. The success rate is higher when the URL leads to a real branded page rather than a raw affiliate redirect.

  4. Stop using URL shorteners that share blocklist history. Bit.ly, tinyurl, and goo.gl-style shorteners inherit flags from previous tenants. A custom domain on linkboo avoids this.

  5. If the warning persists, migrate to a clean domain. Domains that have been re-flagged after appeal are usually re-flagged again. A fresh custom domain on linkboo with a clean SSL certificate, real branded landing content, and no aggressive redirect chains resolves most persistent cases.

During review, route Instagram traffic through a linkboo short link on a different domain. Your audience reaches the destination without seeing the warning.

Still not working?

If the warning only appears on some devices or for some viewers, you are seeing the partial-rollout tier of the classifier. The fix is the same — submit a review and consider migrating the domain.
