An NSFW link in your Instagram bio is allowed only within Meta's rules: no links to pornographic websites, and posts with links to adult subscription sites are shown to adults only. A common setup is a link page with an 18+ warning page in front of the adult link, so fans confirm their age before it opens. Each app draws the line differently.
Get the rules wrong and you can lose the link, or the account. Get the page wrong and the cost is fans who tap and hit a dead end. Below: what each app's rules say, what an 18+ warning page does, and what your fans see.
what Instagram's rules say about NSFW links
Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Threads share one rulebook, Meta's Community Standards (Meta). Its policy on adult sexual solicitation draws two lines that matter for a bio link (Meta):
- Not allowed: content that "contains usernames or links to pornographic websites".
- Shown to adults only: content that "contains usernames, links to or logos of Adult Subscription Websites". Meta limits the ability to view it to people 18 and over.
Which group a site falls in is Meta's call; the policy doesn't name sites. Your bio showing link.boo/yourname instead of the site's own address doesn't change what you post, and it doesn't take your account outside these rules.
Instagram also lets you put up to five links in your profile, and "anyone, on or off Instagram, can see your websites" (Instagram Help). Anyone includes people under 18, which is the reason for a warning page.
18+ links on TikTok, X, Threads, Snapchat and Telegram
| App | What its rules say | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Threads | Meta's Community Standards, the same as Instagram | Meta |
| TikTok | No nudity, sexual activity or sexual services. "If a link breaks our rules, we'll remove it." TikTok may also stop you posting links, or ban the account for severe cases | Sensitive themes, links |
| X | Consensual adult content is allowed when labeled with a content warning, but never in a profile photo or header | X Help |
| Snapchat | Forbids "promoting, offering, or soliciting of sexual services", including "offering sexual subscription" services | Snap |
| Telegram | Its terms forbid posting "illegal pornographic content on publicly viewable Telegram channels, bots, etc." | Telegram |
Checked on 2026-10-26. Rules change, and apps apply them differently by country; TikTok says it may "apply these guidelines differently depending on the region". Read the current page before you post.
Two things follow. X's rules allow labeled adult content, as long as your profile photo and header stay clean. On Snapchat, offering a sexual subscription is against the rules, and TikTok removes links that lead to what its rules don't allow, whatever page the link passes through first.
what an 18+ warning page is, and what it isn't
An 18+ warning page, also called an adult content checkpoint or age gate, is a notice that shows before an adult link opens. The fan reads it and chooses: confirm they're an adult and continue, or go back.
What it does:
- warns fans before they open something they might not want in public;
- gives people under 18 a clear stop sign;
- shows you take the line seriously.
What it doesn't do:
- It isn't age verification. A button checks nothing. Any real age check is up to the site that hosts the content.
- It doesn't change where the link leads. A notice is for fans, and the apps' rules are about the destination.
what fans see in their own browser
On linkboo, adding a link to a known adult site is part of Pro, and so is marking any other link 18+ yourself. Those links show the 18+ notice. An adult link added to a Free page before stays, and shows the notice too.
When a fan taps that link in Safari, Chrome or any other browser, linkboo shows a "Content Notice": "This link has restricted access. By continuing, you confirm you are of legal age in your jurisdiction." There are two buttons. Continue opens the link. Go back closes the notice and leaves them on your page.
inside Instagram or TikTok: what Free and Pro pages do
Fans tap your bio link inside the app, so your page first opens in the app's own browser. That browser is signed out of everything (why links open logged out). Here the plans differ.
On a Free page, the page shows inside the app's browser. When a fan taps an 18+ link there, it doesn't open: they see "Restricted Content", a notice that the link "cannot be opened within an in-app browser", with only a Go back button. Unless they open your page in their own browser through the app's menu, that's the end of the road.
On a Pro page, linkboo's deeplinking shows fans the way out of the app's browser. Depending on the app, their own browser opens by itself, or they press and hold one button to open it. From TikTok it's always the button. On X there's no button: fans use X's own menu. Your linkboo page then opens in their own browser, where they're signed in to the sites they use. They tap your 18+ link, see the notice, and continue.
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| 18+ notice in the fan's own browser | Only for an adult link already on the page | Yes |
| Adding a link to a known adult site | No | Yes |
| Marking your own links 18+ | No | Yes |
| Shielded links (address hidden from the page) | Adult links only, automatically | Any link, your choice |
| A fan inside an app taps your page | 18+ links can't open there | The way out first, then the notice |
set it up on linkboo
- Add the link. If it goes to a known adult site, it's 18+ already. On Free, the editor won't add one; that's part of Pro.
- For any other link that leads to adult content, turn on 18+ link. Its note in the editor: "Fans confirm their age first."
- Turning on 18+ also turns on Hide from bots: "Hides this link from scanners. Fans still tap through." The link's address stays out of your page. You can turn it off again.
- Put your linkboo address in your bio, on the apps whose rules allow it.
Shielding keeps the address out of your page. It doesn't change where the link goes, and no tool can promise how an app classifies a link, so the rules above still decide what you can post.
if you're a fan and the link won't open
If a creator's link shows a notice that it can't be opened in an in-app browser, open the page in your own browser and tap it again there.
- Instagram or Facebook, on iPhone or Android: Meta says you can use "the menu inside the in-app browser" to open links in your system browser (Meta Business Help Center). Step by step: open an Instagram link in your browser.
- TikTok: see open a TikTok link in your browser.
- Other apps: look for the app's menu on the open page. The wording varies by app and version.
what doesn't work
- A short link or redirect in front. The link still leads to the same place, and that's what TikTok's rule is about.
- An adult link in a bio where the rules forbid it. On Snapchat, offering a sexual subscription is against the rules, whatever the address looks like.
- A warning page as an age check. It warns; it doesn't verify.
- A Free linkboo page for an 18+ link. Inside an app, fans hit a notice and a Go back button.

Can I put an NSFW link in my Instagram bio?
Only within Meta's rules. Meta doesn't allow links to pornographic websites, and it limits posts with links to adult subscription sites to people 18 and over. Read Meta's policy before you post one.
What is an 18+ warning page?
A notice that shows before an adult link opens. The fan confirms they're an adult and continues, or goes back. It's a warning, not an ID check.
Is an adult content checkpoint the same as age verification?
No. A checkpoint asks fans to confirm their age with a button; it doesn't check anything. Any real age check is up to the site that hosts the content.
Does an 18+ warning page hide my link from Instagram?
No, it's there for fans, and the link still leads to the same place. On linkboo Pro, shielded links keep a link's address out of your page, but no tool can promise how an app classifies a link.
Can I add an 18+ link to a free linkboo page?
No. Adding a link to a known adult site, and marking your own links 18+, are part of Pro. See pricing.
